under the recently added playlist there used to be an option to sort by date added. Easier to find the songs i just downloaded etc. did they get rid of this option in itunes 8.2? is there a way to enable it?

It's still there if you enable it. Right-click on a column header (like titel, artist, etc.) and check "date added" or anything else you like to be displayed.
