iPhone 6(S)/Plus iTunes checkbox for selecting "this device to sync over wi-fi" is absent

Using: iPhone 6P (iOS 12.0), MBP 2018 w/Touch Bar (Mac OS 10.13.6), iTunes (12.8.0.150). I connect my phone to my MBP via lightening to USB cable > open iTunes > select my iPhone > Summary tab. There is then supposed to be a checkbox for selecting "this device to sync over wi-fi", but that checkbox is absent. Earlier today I had received a notice to update software to allow my phone to connect with my MBP...I downloaded and installed that update. Any idea where I can find the absent checkbox?
