iTunes comment question

Is there a way to either disable or erase the comments on a massive group of songs from within iTunes?

Each comment on the songs I want to clear is unique, so I can't just select them all and then erase them...

Yes, you can select them all, Get Info, put a space in the comments field, then delete the space and click OK.
