iTunes constantly freezing adding movie

I have some movies I want to add to iTunes, then transfer to my iPad. They are in the correct format, but whenever I add even ONE to iTunes, iTunes just freezes and I can get the spinning beach ball of death. I have tried dragging it, adding it through iTunes, and playing the movie with iTunes. Nothing. So frustrating!! Any tips??
