itunes, convert to a different directory

I have all of my music in itunes in lossless format on my Imac (external HDD).
I would like to convert it all to aac for my car stereo harddrive.
Itunes converts it aac no problem but it leaves it in the same directory where my lossless is and this shows up as duplicates in itunes.
Is there a way to convert it and have Itunes dump the lossy aac in a different HDD or directory?
