So I'm trying to finally get all my media organized into iTunes. Currently I have all my tv shows and movies on my Airport Disk, and then an alias in my local movie folder. This isn't as organized as I'd like, and I would like all my video files in itunes, so I can easily plop them onto my iPod when I decide to have them on the go.
Now, almost all of my video files are avi, and I have a lot of them, so a lot of work needs to be done. I know you can make reference files or links that can be added to iTunes. However, I don't want to have to relink everything if they get moved, plus I want to be able to share them with others. Also, most of the files are TV Shows, and I would like them to be put into iTunes' TV Show category.
First solution I've discovered. I've heard and started experimenting using Mpeg Streamclip. Here I can open an avi, and just save it as a mov shell. Takes only a minute, doesn't mess with the settings and codec, and i can drag it right into itunes and play it. It apparently has a batch mode, but I haven't used that yet.
The second issue is getting it to be recognized as a TV Show in iTunes.
One solution is using a program called Lostify, which will retag it to be recognized as a Music Video, TV Show, etc.
This solution does not work since Lostify only works with MP4 files. Looking into Metadata Hootenanny to see if I can accomplish this. Suggestions are appreciated.
Now, this is going to be a big ordeal to accomplish. So before I begin doing this, I was wondering people's thoughts and experiences on the process.
