Hi Everyone -
This is not a new topic, as there are tons of pages out there that speak to this. So much so, it's overwhelming. So apologies for any redundancy to previous posts.
But, I do have one question that I can't find an answer to.
Background: As of today we are completely in Apple ecosystem with iPhones / iPads / aTVs, and our late 2009 iMac. On the iMac, the iTunes library is taking 90% of the internal hard drive space. Based on my reading, I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy a usb3.0 / FW800 (future port / current open port) DAS drive from macsales to move my library to. But I'm still curious about NAS options, either something like the WD myCloud or a little more $$ for a synology. Our house is fully cat5 wired, but two of the three aTVs are using wireless.
My question is on simultaneous streaming video to multiple aTVs. We typically have the two wireless ones accessing itunes at the same time (kids and parents). Sometimes three are going, and the third is wired into home network. I'm worried about potential lag. Anyone have thoughts on streaming iTunes content via an airport extreme from a direct iMac attached FW800 drive, versus a NAS connected to the iMac via our cat5? My naive guess is both would be ok, but starting thinking drawing from the NAS over the cat5 would be faster than the FW800 connection? Not 100% sure the route in which the content is sent.
Also, I am open to any other suggestions you might have. I have read quite a bit on benefits and issues for both NAS and DAS and iTunes. Also curious about PlexConnect, but again, it's quite overwhelming all the options. Regardless, my primary question is on streaming lag. Secondary is the next bit of stuff and future-proofing.
Cheers.

[edit]...could've put this question in the appleTV section, but hoping the title will draw both sets of experts.
