iTunes deletes all episodes in a Podcast

I had a Podcast in my Podcast list (with saved episodes) that I have not listened too in 2 years or more. However today I wanted to check it out again and hit the subscribe button, but to my horror iTunes deleted the podcast and all saved episodes which are nowhere to be found, even in the trash folder. I re-subscribed to the podcast, but all the old episodes from 2011 that I had saved are GONE. How can I get them back? Thank you
