iTunes does not recognize 3G iphone

This issue is something I only noticed this week (after I added a few songs and realized it didn't sync up).

iPhoto does seem to recognize the phone and can pull pics off it, but iTunes doesn't even recognize it (the phone still charges).

I tried the basic closing/relaunching and rebooting and it didn't work. The thing that did work was a reinstall of iTunes. But I was only able to re-sync with my phone via iTunes for about 5 days before it crapped out again.

Is there any permanent solution to this? I really don't want to have to keep reinstalling iTunes every time it doesn't recognize the phone

Are you sure your USB port if okay? You might try another one to see if the problem reoccurs.

Ya, it works fine (I did try the other port when the problem first occurred). But the USB port/cable isn't the issue since like I said in the original post, iPhoto recognizes the phone
