itunes doesn't sync photos from macbook to ipad 2

Attempting to sync photos using Itunes from MacBook Pro (snow leopard) with IPhoto 6.0.6 to IPad 2 (IOS 4.3.3).
On the ITunes Photo tab, I select "sync photos from IPhoto. The capacity bar at the bottom reflects 8.8 GB of photos to sync, but NO photos ever sync. No error messages. Tried deleting IPOD Photo Cache and resyncing but nothing works. Any help appreciated.
