after updating security software and Safari this morning, iTunes no longer plays any purchased TV shows or Movies.

MacBook Pro late 2011 15"

Any idea how to play videos?

Same here, recently updated now none of my Mac`s will play any video bought on iTunes. Am going to download iTunes and reinstall. Apple`s software just gets worse...

Update: reinstalling iTunes 12.3.1 did nothing, nor is anything forthcoming from Apple is effecting all my Mac`s More users with the same issue here, conveniently upgrading to 10.11 resolves, equally that completely breaks my workflow.

I did exactly the same. I had to update OS X to El Capitan from Yosemite in order to get the videos playing again.

I did the opposite uninstalled iTunes 12.3.1 installed iTunes 12.3, reran the 10.10.5 OS X installer iTunes now plays all video. I don't want OS X 10.11 as it breaks too many applications still being a WIP by Apple.

Wait! There is iTunes 13.3 or do you mean 12.3?

I didn't want to upgrade to El Capitan either as some of my programs are not working. So can you tell me your solution more clearly?
Thanks!

I uninstalled latest iTunes (12.3.1.23) with AppCleaner, installed iTunes 12.3.0, then ran the OS X 10.10 full installer. This fixed iTunes. It may be worth while trying to run the 10.10 installer or 10.10.5 Combo update first and see what happens, that is my plan for my other Mac`s.

10.11.2 is useless to me in it`s current state, now with Apple breaking iTunes 12.3.1 their software if fast becoming a joke and wasting my time fixing what used to work without any issue...

Update: Running the 10.10.5 Yosemite full OS X installer fixed iTunes 12.3.1.23 paid video content now plays without issue, this is the simplest way I have found to fix this issue.

n.b. You will need to update Safari back to 9.0.2 after applying the Yosemite installer.

Thanks for posting your solution. Worked like a charm.

I think it's the latest security update that caused the problem. I had iTunes 12.3.1.23 and worked without any problem - until I installed the latest security update. Then nothing worked.

Belive the same; I find it ridiculous that Apple does not fully test their updates, equally it could be construed by the cynical as a mechanism to push more users to that tragic mess Apple calls El Capitan; halfway through it`s development cycle and still a work in progress...

If Apple wants my money in 2016 they better start living up to "premium" personally I have little time for this current nonsense; aesthetically OS X is now a disaster and stability is heading the same way :(
