I bought that u2 box set for way too much money and some sort of error popped up which i thought said the purchase couldn't go thru, but turns out it did. When I tell itunes to check for purchases, I get 1 of 3 errors.

"Unable to check for purchases. The network connection was reset
Make sure your network connection is active and try again."
(modem is always connected and active when it says that. I get that error 95% of the time.)

Occasionally, the first time I try, I get "Unable to check for purchases. An unknown error occurred (3).

rarely, I get "Unable to check for purchases. An unknown error occurred (-9844)."

I tried getting a free song. It unexpectedly started to download fine, so I hit stop. I told it to check for my free song purchase and try downloading it again which made the errors pop up which I did expect.

weird stuff. Whatever the problem is seems to be purely checking for purchases. I emailed apple itunes email support, but they said this isn't the kinda thing they fix and call applecare which I don't subscribe to. I'm hoping they update itunes next week and it's magically fixed. :D

Thanks! That webpage says:

> 1. Check your Purchase History to see if the charge appears there.

It does, $149.99. why couldn't it have been a 99¢ purchase? D'oh!

> 2. Select "Check for Purchased Music" from the Advanced menu.

That's what makes the errors pop up.

> 3. Check your Purchased Music playlist for the missing purchases.

It isn't there, cuz of the purchase check failing. hmmm *scratches head*

[EDIT] oh wait, duh. *fills out the lost music support form*

They got back to me fast! The guy said it sounds like I have web accelerator software running (I don't have any) or a firewall running (never turned it on.)

After 2 months of errors, it's suddenly working again. *mystified*
