itunes error 14

i have been trying to update my 2g iphone since this morning and i keep getting itunes error 14- could not update iphone.

i am using an ibook g4. i updated both itunes (8.2), and quicktime. My iphone is currently running OS 2.2.1(pwned on my mac).

i have tried updating on another mac, i still get the same error. also, the OS 3.0 GM i downloaded is 229.3 mb(iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw)

any ideas, suggestions?
