A friend did an update to his iPhone 3 to 4.3.1 (highest the 3 can have).

After it was done, most of his contacts vanished.

What did he do wrong, how can he recover.

Is it possible some apps do not properly input the contact data so when one syncs the data is not saved?

Could canceling a Sync half way cause loss of data?

A little background:
He is a software hardware designer and the last thing he wants is to go home to another computer, so he does not have one :)eek:).
He used his company Win7 computer (has admin rights) to do the update.
I think this was the first time he ever synced up his iPhone to a computer (had phone for 1 year)
