So, here's the scenario: I have Filevault enabled on my iMac and I want to make a TimeMachine backup to make a bootable disk. I cannot unencrypt because there isn't enough room on my hard drive for Filevault to expand then compress back to normal size. So my question is this, can I move my iTunes library to an external drive (with Filevault still enabled), turn Filevault off, then import the library back to my iMac (with Filevault now disabled) and have full use of the library? Kind of convoluted I know but this appears to be the only option as I don't have an external hard drive big enough to make a Filevault backup in TimeMachine, its just too big. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

That should work fine. I had to create space as well when un-encrypting so I could migrate my profile to my new machine.
