iPod touch iTunes Freezes When Syncing iPod Touch 1G

Today I decided to update my iPT 1G. However, iTunes keeps freezing once my iPod gets plugged in. iPT is running 3.1.3, no 3rd party apps installed (also unjailbroken). Meanwhile, my iPhone 4 on iOS 5.0.1 syncs just fine. iTunes is 5.0.1 on MacBook Pro (specs in sig). Any ideas to try? Don't just wanna let one of my favorite devices just sit with old content :rolleyes:. Thanks!
