iTunes freezing when importing from flash drive

My mom just bought a new Macbook. I have transferred some of her albums from iTunes on her Dell to a flash drive. When I try to import them into itunes, it stops importing after a few songs, freezes, and won't even let me force quit itunes. At first I thought I was importing too many files, but that does not seem to be the case, since i tried to import an album at a time, and it still freezes up. Sometimes even Finder freezes. Please help!

Copy them to disk first.

by disk do you mean a cd?
