iTunes Genius Data

Ok, this is annoying as hell. WTF is Genius Data? Is it necessary? Can I get rid of it? It really really really slows down my iPhone's backing up to iTunes while it endlessly syncs Genius Data and then Waiting For Items To Copy.

Turn off Genius in iTunes? I have it turned off and have never experienced that with my iPod.

Store > Turn Off Genius

This is really bothering me as well... I do not have the "Turn Genius off" option under Store. . Any other methods?
