Only just noticed it whilst I was tidying up my library.. there's a 'cover flow view' in itunes. It even goes fullscreen. Pretty useless without the multitouch though...

I love when I discover features I didn't know were there.

The other day I thought I'd discovered something so neat I just had to share it with a friend:

I was playing my 5G iPod and the headphones came unplugged by accident. The iPod paused it self for me so I didn't miss any music while I was unplugged.

Showed this to a friend who just went.... "yeah." Apparently that's not a new feature at all.

Oh well, I thought it was cool.

Maybe we should do a thread on little known iPod / iTunes stuff.

Did you know you can do some really pretty decent CD booklets with iTunes?

It definately didn't have it about a month ago when I last rummaged through itunes (they added an album view too which is a copy of the windows media player view.. never liked that much TBH.. too messy).

These big companies always buy their tech from outside.. nothing new there - of course it's something that simply doesn't work without a touch screen. It's pretty (sort of.. blowing up album covers to that size makes them look a bit poor) but ultimately useless.

Well I guess you could export the file list as text and print it... unless there's some trick you've discovered?

My photo (2G? 3G? Around that era anyway) did the headphone thing.. discovered that by accident too, after I'd had it for ages.

Its been there for a while. Perhaps you were using an older version of iTunes?

I use it for movies:

Click on a playlist (any one will do) the go to File, then Print. Choose Jewel Case and check out the different kinds. They're pretty cool.

LoL we've had that for more than a year now...

Interesting... not something I'd use - I have the CDs for everything in my library anyway.. but would be nice if I ever lost an insert (provided I could get the printer working with osx, but that's a whole other story, and forum probably).

Not on mine.. pretty hard to miss as it's on the same menu as the all important find duplicates option (although itunes doesn't duplicate files nearly as often as it used to).

Might not have been enabled until I got a touch or something.. or possibly it's because this old mini never gets updates (apart from quicktime security updates, which seem to appear every 2-3 days, there hasn't actually been an update for it for ages - I had to manually download the itouch compatible itunes).

It was available with version 7. That's been quite a while. Did you notice the change in the scrollbars, etc.?

In fact, iTunes had Coverflow before the iPhone and iPod.

I know they fiddled with the UI a bit when they added podcasts. Haven't noticed much else change since. I *really* noticed when they added gapless playback because it took 8 hours for it to rebuild my itunes library... grr.. (IIRC I rolled back that version and didn't upgrade again for ages).

added podcasts?!?!?! that was ages ago! :eek:since then the scroll bars got deaquified, and apple broke the source list into nice organized sections, and added coverflow. Then they put it on the iPhone, then leopard in the finder and the new iPods (touch or otherwise)

I understood about 50% of that lol.

'Put leopard in the finder'? My finder looks the same to me... :D Sounds like an advert for petrol - 'put leopard in your tank.. your car will love you...'

I thought that they added podcasts sometime during version 5.

I know this is covered but it has been there for a while.

Does anyone else want the cover flow functionality that the iPhone and iPod touch have?? I want to be able to view it full screen and click on an album and see the songs!

While it doesn't have the cool "click the album to flip it over" thing, you can view CoverFlow in Fullscreen--just hit Command-F in Coverflow view.

Conversely, I wish that iPod touch let you use coverflow sorted by Album and not Album Artist...

Also, Podcasting was added in version 4.9, way back in 2005....

I knew it existed, but never used it.
How do I get the album art? I thought iTunes did it automatically but I have lots of albums and no art

Nevermind... for anyone else who doesnt know, go to "advanced" and hit "Get album artwork"
