iTunes help lost all songs

OK, I have a MacBook that I had to send out to get a new hard drive. My computer (only 2 months old) came back with a brand new hard drive & it was like I just bought the Mac, all my stuff was gone. The only I really cared about was my itunes music....my ipod has about 1000 songs on it (all legal!) but since itunes on my mac was wiped clean I don't have anything in my itunes there..so if i sync my ipod i lose everything...i called apple they said there is 'no' way around this...all i want is to somehow get those songs back into my computer...so i came to the experts! thanks in advance
