itunes home sharing icon won't stay connected

I have the latest itunes downloaded and what to enable home sharing to share my library with my iPad/iPhone. Every time I enable home sharing (enter username/password) and click done, the home sharing logo disappears? Home sharing won't stay connected

Edit: I'm connected through an Airport extreme network at home.

Edit: Got it to work some how. I can pull my playlist to my iPhone and iPad, however, the sharing logo still doesn't appear when connect on itunes. Weird
