Itunes: How do I change artist name for album?

I have a billy Joel compilation that it refuses to list as "Billy Joel"

Instead it insists on calling it "Various Artists" and it's messing up my sort.

I gather that it did this because there was one track featuring another artist. However, even after editing that track to just "Billy Joel", it did nothing. (this did work on another album, curiously!)
