iTunes: how to display song title+artist?

I don't understand how the "Grid" and "Cover flow" view displays things in iTunes 8.

I've been using "List" view up to now, but found it very nice to see the cover art. Unfortunately each song is displayed by title and album which is irritating as I have lots of 12" singles with their own cover art.
For instance, if I choose "Cover flow" a song will be shown with its cover art, artist name and "Unknown album" instead of its song name.
How do I make it display its song name?

If I import singles I usually put the single title in the album field. Eventually you can add 'single' or '12"' to it.
