What I would like to know is whats the difference between ID3 tag v2.3 and v2.4, iTunes lets you convert/choose between the two. I'm just ready to batch edit the names of the genres that I have and I wonder if it would be faster in the long run to convert the ID3 tag version before I started batch editing my whole library. Right now most of my songs are ID3 tag v2.3, would I benifit if I convert all my music to v2.4?

Mostly, 2.4 has more fields and can (potentially) contain more information. 2.4 has been around for 5 or 6 years now, so I'd hope that backward compatibility has ceased to be an issue by now.

handy dandy comparison chart
ID3v2 in depth

I have had issues when I have coverted music to ID2.4 such as the Album art will not bind to the file and and other tag information not sticking or showing up in iTunes. When I converted them to 2.3 all of the issues ceased. Beacuse of that I always covert to 2.3 to avoid these issues.
