I have -at least- a dozen of "old" mp3 files that used to play fine in Windows (foobar2000, Winamp, etc.) and still play fine on my iMac 24' using the latest VLC media player or Audion 3.

However I can't import or even play these files in iTunes (latest). I googled around but didn't find anything about this (the files are standard mp3 files, not ogg or any other format not supported in iTunes).

Any idea on what I should try to do?

Here's an idea: you could try loading the files in a program like Audacity and export them as WAV/AIFF. Then load these files into iTunes and convert them back to MP3.

You might suffer a slight quality loss, but at least the files will work. Let us know what you decide to do.
