Is there a way to feed 3rd party data into iTunes so that a custom list of podcasts could be viewed from inside iTunes itself? Akin to customizing the iTunes store?
I'm thinking of something like Miro's Custom Channel Guides (see getmiro.com) so if I wanted to share my favourite podcasts with other iTunes users I could point the users to it2-letter-code://domain.com/mypodcasts.html and it'd show up inside iTunes, as if iTunes were a browser.
Another method would be to (temporarily) swap the Store data as it gets passed back to iTunes for personalized XML that would list a custom selection of podcasts/etc. This seems like a serious longshot, but has anyone tried it? I tried using /etc/hosts to make iTunes query a local web server rather than the actual iTunes store, but it appears they have some method of checking for authenticity (understandable really).
iTunes does currently grab itpc:// URLs, but assumes they are iTunes Podcasts. Are there any other protocols iTunes accepts that could be of use?
I realize all this is highly unlikely, but I thought I'd put it out there.
