iTunes iPad music issues

Hey everyone, apologies if this is the wrong forum. I'm a new iMac owner and have run into a nagging problem with iTunes. I can manually add movies to my devices just fine but not music. When I drag content over it simply doesn't copy but movies work just fine. No issues with the Windows PC that the Mac is retiring.

I'm sure it's something simple but I'm pulling my hair out at this point. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What format are the music files?

Create a playlist called iPad containing all the music you want to put on your device nthen sync that playlist.

The playlist worked great. Still annoyed, I removed my entire library and re-imported everything. That seems to have worked, I can now add music directly.
