itunes/iphone, error message please help :)

I downloaded the newest itunes, and when i plug in my iphone 4, for the first timeee it says

"This iPhone cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install iTunes again."

PLEASE HELP, i just want to put some jams on my phone !

also, i dont want to delete iTunes because all my music that's already there would be goneeeee.
