iTunes/iPod updating

Got a questions for all the experts on these boards. Whenever I try to update my iPod by plugging it in to my Powerbook (OS 10.4.2) it doesnt work unless i repair permissions every time. My iPod shows up in the finder but not in iTunes. Just wondering if anyone else had experienced that and what your solution was. thanks.

No, but I think Apple has heard about it: iPod does not appear in iPod Updater or iTunes in Mac OS X
