i have all my music backed up on an external hard drive, and does anyone know how to import all the songs at once, rather than clicking each one of them manually??

Itunes library on external hard drive

import? as in iTunes > File menu > Add to Library.. > [choose external folder]
Make sure "copy files when adding" and, optionally, "keep organised" are checked in iTunes menu > Prefs > Advanced > General tab, first
(I presume you mean just copying them onto your internal drive and adding them to the iTunes Library)
