Why do they both exist? My best guess is just that they switched to iTunes Library but maintain an identical iTunes Music Library file for now for compatibility (since the XML files exist so 3rd party apps can access the iTunes library)

Also, I noticed that iTunes Library.xml was only created a last week. Is it an iTunes 9.0.1 thing?

Sorry to keep posting on my own thing, but I think I may have (partially) figured it out! iTunes Library.xml was only created last week and isn’t still being modified. Then I remembered that I pointed my other Mac’s iTunes at the library on this computer once last week, so maybe that’s it! Does anyone know for sure? Still not sure why it would create a separate file…

OK! I’ve investigated. It looks like new libraries use the “iTunes Library.xml” file. However, even after upgrading my library to iTunes Media organization, it still uses “iTunes Music Library.xml”.

I know it’s not important by any means, but it’s still gonna bug me. Does anyone know how this can be changed?

This might help you.
