iTunes Library

I'm currently running 10.4.7 on an eMac but considering purchasing a new Mac for my home-office in the next six months. Whilst all my programs and documents are easily transferable, my major worry is my iTunes Library.

I have speant a lot of time sorting my Library, creating playlists and so-on, and have over 13,000 songs on the library. All the music files are on an external hard-drive, but my worry is having to add them all to the new iTunes Library, create playlists etc.

Is there a way to duplicate my old library to any new machine? I know you can back the library to a file, but in the past this hasn't worked when trying to import.

You could use Migration Assistant to transfer all your data to the new Mac.

But since you say all the music files are on an external drive it shouldn't be any problems. Just back up the content of the ~/Music/iTunes/ folder and move the ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Library file to the same location on your new Mac.



That file contains all the playlists and information on play count, your rating, etc.
