I keep all my iTunes music on an external hard drive that usually isn't connected to my computer. However, the library database file is on my internal hard drive. I try not to open iTunes when my external drive isn't connected, but sometimes I do it anyway to install an iPhone app or something. Usually, this doesn't cause any problems except possibly downloading new podcasts onto my internal drive. However, today I connected my external drive and found that many of the songs in iTunes couldn't be found and displayed the "!" next to them. I restored the library database from Time Machine, but lost the songs and podcasts that I had recently added. Does anyone have tips for opening iTunes when my songs are all stored on an external hard drive that usually isn't attached to my computer?

Thanks!
