itunes: Manually manage music?

do you prefer to manually manage your music?
what's the pros and cons of each?
 
Manual since 2004 although I forgot why. Probably because I never purchased a single track from iTunes and prefer to organize stuff MY WAY, using my own tools to add/modify metadata.
