So this is now the second time in last couple of weeks this has happened - the first time fixed itself after about 20 minutes.

I currently have iTunes match and have a bunch of devices connected to it. My iPhone 5 told me today that I don't have iTunes match and that I need to sign up on my computer for it. Well I checked both my work iPhone (iTunes match is signed in and working) and my computer (my expiration date isn't until January) and have no idea why this is only affecting my iP5.

Has anyone else encountered this? I thought maybe the new software update would bring some stability but it has now happened on 6.0 and 6.0.1, but seems isolated to my iP5.

Yes. I have had the same issue. Root cause for me was turning off "Use cellular data" for application downloads and iTunes Match. Once I turned this back on iTunes Match worked as expected.
