iTunes match low bitrate files

I have a bunch of old radio recordings and podcats as mp3s i would like to listen to. However because they are recorded at 56kbps they are ineligible for upload to itunes match.

Because i use itunes match on my devices i cant get them on there because i can't copy them through itunes and i can't download them from the cloud.

What is the best way to deal with this? Currently i've disabled match to copy them over, i want to make sure they don't get wiped if i decide to re-enable match for example.

You could convert them to a higher bitrate, either with iTunes or with an app such as All2MP3.
