I want to station a pre-lightning iPod touch in my car and keep the wifi on (it will always be plugged in and charging) and use it for iTunes Match. I would then enabled tethering on my current and future iPhones, and let the iPod touch tether off of that and stream my entire library via iTunes Match.

I don't like having my phone tied up in the armrest, and often leave it behind by mistake if I hook it up. However, my main concern is if the tethering is as automatic between iOS devices as I'm envisioning. I'm not concerned about data because I have unlimited, but am mostly concerned about how easily iOS devices can recognize each other and re-enable data transfer on the fly.

Any suggestions? Kind of annoyed I can't even put iOS 7 on the older iPod Touches, but it's just going to sit in the car anyways.

Thanks!
