In order to save space on my machines at home, I've started to store my music on a shared USB hard disk attached to my AirPort Extreme. I do this by setting the default iTunes folder to the network drive in my preferences, and letting iTunes organize my files for me. I love that it frees up space and allows me to access my media from multiple machines. However, I have one problem:
Whenever I restart my MacBook or reconnect to my home network after using my MacBook elsewhere, the file location for every item in my library is redirected to my MacBook's local drive, and no file is found. I then have to change my preferences back to the network drive and wait for iTunes to requery all of the items in my library.
Is there a way to fix this problem? It would be one thing if I just had to change the default folder everytime I import new music, but I have to do it to even listen to the music I already have in my library. And it's become especially annoying when I inadvertently uninstall iPhone apps because they are "not found" when I sync my phone.
