iTunes messing up genre id3 tags?

Over the weekend I was cleaning up my id3 tags in iTunes so I could import them into my HTPC. Once everything was labeled properly I tried to browse them using SageTV and a lot of the genre showed up as weird numbers instead of names. Then, just to double check, I opened the MP3's using an mp3 tagging tool and it confirmed that a lot of my MP3's had strange numbers instead of names in the genre field. Does anyone know how to fix this within iTunes?
