iTunes mini player question

Hiya folks - I'm a long time Mac guy and former Apple discussions user (don't ask, suffice to say the new layout there is unusable). I was wondering why when I click on the play/pause button in the iTunes mini player it selects iTunes now? It used to just play or pause without navigating away from the current active application but it makes iTunes active and I have to click on my previous app to make it active again. Anyone know why this might be happening? Is there a fix/workaround? Thanks!

I can't say why it works that way (I hadn't noticed it before reading your post) but Play/Pause on the keyboard doesn't have that effect.
