I recently upgraded our home theater system with a Pioneer VSX-820-K A/V receiver. The following is NOT meant to be a plug for Pioneer, but just my experience.
The VSX series of A/V receivers ships with a special iDevice cable that links your iDevice directly to the receiver through jacks on the front of the system. There are some simple on screen commands for playing songs/playlists etc. In other words, it can become a playback dock for your iDevice.
However, what peaked my interest was the ability to play rented/purchased iTunes movies. There's a particular video I have not been able to find on NetFlix nor Crackle that is on iTunes (Pirate Radio). Last night I connected my iPhone 4 to the Pioneer and through iTunes played the "preview" of the movie. I was amazed at the quality of the video on my 42" LED wide screen TV.
BTW: I have one of the Apple audio/video cables; however, the one supplied with the Pioneer charges your device while playing the movie.
Would be interested in hearing others experience with iDevice to TV.
