iTunes Music Folder System

I'm trying to figure out iTunes and I can't see the co-relation between the songs/albums on iTunes and the songs/albums in the itunes folder which is within my Music folder.

If I drag a song into that iTunes folder system, it doesnt appear on iTunes.

So what is the relationship between these two?

Okay

It's not designed to be accessed that way.

Just drag songs into the iTunes interface and it does the rest.

But if its connected, then why are there songs in the folder system which are not in the iTunes list?

The problem with dragging songs into iTunes is that you need to manually set up the Album, Artist etc...

With the folder system, you can just arrange the folders and leave it there.

If only it worked that way.

What's the corelation?

Okay

If you want to do it that way, uncheck "Copy file to iTunes Music Library" in preferences.

Then you can arrange your songs in folders how you want, and they'll play in iTunes.
