I have all my music on an external HD, and i want to load it all into my iTunes. But, when i do, it copies all the music into the iTunes music folder, therefor taking up all the space on the laptop HD. ITs really annoying me. I dont want it to copy the files. How can i stop this?

You need to change your iTunes Music folder location in iTunes Preferences to point to your external drive.

..or make an alias called "iTunes Music" to your external's music folder and replace the existing folder in ~/Music/iTunes with it.
Or switch off "copy when adding" in Preferences > Advanced (although this means that iTunes won't be managing your music files, so if you delete a track out of the Library it will still be there on the drive)
