You can, but why would you want to? It makes them easier to locate if anything happens to your library files.

Not only that, but on some albums, the same song occurs twice. If you didn't have the track number in the name to distinguish them, one would write over the other. I prefer to keep my file names in the format: Artist Name 01 Song Name.mp3
