Hi there.

I just switched from Windows. I got me a 17" HiRes MBP and I LOVE it :)

I have all my music stored on a server, as I have done for the past 10 years. It's all stored in folders like this - /Artist/Year - Album/01 - Track.mp3

Currently the server us running Windows 2003, and I have iTunes open on it, sharing my library. I'm about to install a few more drives, and go Linux. I've seen various articles about sharing music to iTunes clients from Linux. I assume it works?

My question is, is there anyway to get the same functionality as a local music library, from one over a network. One thing, for example, there's no album artwork from a shared network library. Plus, I would like my iTunes to default to the library on the server on start up.

Back in my windows days, I just used Winamp. I've never seen the point of a library application, like iTunes, as I already have all my music sorted (I'm still in the process of getting all the ID3 tags right. Another reason I dislike library apps). Combined with network drives that stayed mounted, it was a great set up. Since switching, I've been using Cog, which isn't bad, but isn't that great either. Plus, iTunes let's me stream via my AirPort Express which is a nice touch if I'm not plugged in, so if I can use it my way, I will.

Thanks

Mark :)
