iTunes network sharing

Hi,

This is what I want to be able to do with my iTunes library:

I want to have one central server with all my music on it. Also, throughout my house I want to have remote iTunes libraries on different computers that can connect to this server and add/remove music. With this set-up my family would be able to pick and choose songs from the central library for their iPods.
Is this sort of set-up possible in iTunes across windows and mac platforms?
