Itunes not able to update podcasts

Hi;
This is a problem I have been recently experiencing with itunes.
Itunes displays the podcasts headers/titles with the exclamation mark and the "get" button. Itunes is not able to "get" the podcasts.
My PC is running XP professional. I have tried turning of the AV (Avast) and the Zonealarm firewall but to to no avail. This seems to be a problem specific to my PC. Anyone out there who can help... maybe?
