iTunes not recognizing iPhone 3GS

i just upgraded to iTunes 9.1.1 and it is not recognizing my iPhone. iPhoto recognizes and I can import pictures but no luck with iTunes. I've tried quitting iTunes, connecting the phone and then re-starting iTunes and that hasn't worked. I've also connected the phone when iTunes is running and had no luck. Any suggestions? Thanks.
