iTunes not remembering backup choice - keeps going back to backup to "this computer"

This is driving me insane. My iPad keeps trying to backup to my computer and I don't want it to. It's already backing up to iCloud. I'll cancel the backup, click iCloud, hit apply, and sync - all is fine. If I unplug and plug the iPad back in, it goes right back to trying to backup to the computer with that button selected. Anyone have any ideas?
