iTunes on an External

I have been reading about putting the iTunes library on an external disk. My idea is to use a NAS drive and store the library there. But I have a few questions..

  1. Can multiple computers share the files. In other words, if I import a CD from my Mac Mini is there a way to have it listed on my laptop and vice versa? I know that iTunes hasn't been able to find media placed in the iTunes folder for some time. Is that still the case?
  2. Second, what type of speeds (realistically) would be seen with a gigabit ethernet port and over wireless N?
